INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS FOR HIGH SCHOOLS

In the context of the Human Rights Photography Prize organised by Act On Your Future, an action of cultural mediation is offered to high school students of the Geneva region to sensitise this young audience to human rights. Organised as interactive workshops and presentations, this action is made for the Foundation's Partner schools. Tackling the question of the visual representation of human rights, those workshops aim to sensitise high school students about issues related to current political and social matters through the images of our award-winning artists. The theme's competition varies every year.

THE WORKSHOP ORGANISATION

There are three phases to the project (adapted to the school's requirements):

1. Presentation to the partner school (1 to 2 hours):
  • Introduction to human rights : key concepts, actors and current issues
  • Presentation of the Act On Your Future Foundation and its activities
  • Presentation of the Human Rights Photography Award and the topics addressed by the laureates in order to grasp the curiosity of the students prior to their visit of the exhibition
  • Intervention by a member of the jury, a laureate of the award or a human rights actor

2. Interactive workshops at the Art Bärtschi & Cie gallery (3 to 4 hours):
  • Visit of the collective exhibition
  • Presentation of the topic addressed by the award through art and photography
  • Composition of five groups and attribution of every group to one laureate exposed
  • Presentation from each group of the topic exposed by the laureate
  • The workshop will last 3 or 4 hours, with a maximum number of 20 students per session
  • Professors or accompanying persons are not obliged to take part in the workshop
  • These workshops are not strictly pertinent to art students only

3. Debriefing at the partner school:
  • Presentation of the different group projects to the other students of the school
  • Discussion on the addressed topics and on how young generations can get involved locally
  • Examples of local projects around the topic
